The ROOT! Compendium - Archive
November 5, 2008
Taking to The Famous Spiegeltent in Sydney, ROOT! played a strong set which included two new songs, setlist titled Emo and Bumpa. Playing just hours after the '08 US Presidential Election was decided, DC took the opportunity to riff off of Sarah Palin.

Reviews
Top night last night, got a signed set list for the compendium, had a chat with DC after the show. Having not seen ROOT! before I dunno how last night compared to other shows, but DC was on fine form out and about in the crowd and weaving in and out of songs with different diatribes, which were all piss funny. Main targets for the night were Sarah Palin and British India. He has a real way with words, at one stage a bloke pulled up his chair to the front and DC made up a 4 line sonnet type thing on the spot about this bloke and his deckchair which had me in stitches. The band were tight and looked like they were having a ball on stage.
The Spiegeltent was pretty cool, it was smaller than I thought it would be and has mirrors all around it and kind of reminded me of a large merry go round, dunno could have been the beers. DC remarked a couple of times that "he could see how old he was". Being a round venue the stage set up meant that there was a semi circle of parquet wooden floor in front of the stage which formed a semi circle. At first there was nobody inside this semi circle and DC comes out and says that it reminded him of playing in a covers band when he was 15 at the Springvale Cricket Club.
The good news is that ROOT! will be playing at the Vanguard in Newtown again on the 10th December. DC said that there will be no tables taking up space this time..
