At the first ever ROOT! gig to be played with new drummer Smiley Root, the band took to an outdoor stage at Melbourne University during O-Week. The crowd shifted during the set from almost barren to quite crowded with makeshift line-dance taking place. Smiley's take on the tracks was a more aggressive style than former ROOT! drummer Barnaby, and despite just a week of rehearsal time, he held up well. After the gig, Barnaby's ex-hat was thrown to the crowd.
