Spring Me Out Of Caroline Springs, Caroline

Spring me out of Caroline Springs[1], Caroline

I had these dreams I'm in Soweto[2], around my neck a flaming tyre[3]
I blame it all upon the Government's special grant for first home buyers[4]
We started out like any couple, but she felt trapped and left me
I just sit here by the perimeter walls[5] and wonder why

Spring me out of Caroline Springs, Caroline

We could run wild and free, nobody could tame us
Just you and me and my repayments, Caroline

My binge drinking was the problem, the towns folk gave me the cold shoulder
I never was much good at mixing, here they all drank burbon and cola
There's this silence now shes left me, just mozzies on the man made river[6]
I miss birds singing in the morning, but theres no trees, so they don't live here[7]

Spring me out of Caroline Springs, Caroline

Come rescue me,
I'm only twenty minutes from the CBD
If you drive at 250[8],
Caroline

I see you at the office printer I guess that you dont even know me
You work with the girls who think they're it, I'm with the boys in IT[9]
They say you grew up on the golden mile[10], moved to Fitzroy[11] just to slum it
Now the market value is soaring high, come where its guaranteed to plummet[12]

Spring me out of Caroline Springs, Caroline

Spring me out of Caroline Springs, Caroline
Theres all these screaming kids, I'm ankle deep in crèches[13]
Get me out of here before they're all teenagers, Caroline
Caroline, Caroline, please Caroline, Caroline, Caroline

Notes

1) Caroline Springs is a planned and developed community just out of Melbourne, Australia.
2) Soweto is an urban area in Johannesburg, South Africa.
3) 'Necklacing' or 'Necklassing' is where a tyre filled with petrol is forced around a person, it holds their arms in place and is then set alight, which usually kills the victim.
4) Under the First Home Owners Grant scheme, a one-off grant of up to $7000 is payable to first home owners that satisfy all the eligibility criteria. It was introduced to offset the efect of GST on home ownership.
5) Caroline Springs has a natural and man-made boundry.
6) Lake Caroline is "the largest man made water feature" according to the official Caroline Springs website. It contains approximately 7 hectares of water.
7) Apparently due to developmental laws imposed in communities such as Caroline Springs, the average block of land went from 1000sqm to 600sqm which gave the houses enough room for a garden and nature strips too thin to hold a tree.
8) According to the official Caroline Springs website, Caroline Springs is only 22km from the CBD, which (by rough math) would take roughly 5 minutes to drive at 250km/h. Incidentially, driving for 22 minutes in the same direction as Caroline Springs, at 250km/h would take you (approximately to) tourist locations Daylesford/Hepburn Springs.
9) Information Technology
10) The Golden Mile is a stretch of Mont Albert Road in Canterbury, one of the top three wealthiest Melbourne suburbs. The Golden Mile is home to grand, ornate mansions.
11) Fitzroy is another upscale Melbourne suburb.
12) From 2002 to 2005 the cost of houses stedilly declined in Caroline Springs. The cost of units did nearly the same (though both are on an increase again).
13) Crèche is a french word which means the same thing as a crib, or a cot, which a baby would sleep in.
