The ROOT! Compendium - Lyrics

All lyrics © ROOT!

My Cowboy Hat is Bigger Than Texas

My cowboy hat is bigger than Texas,
I need it because my head's coming apart at the seams.
My cowboy hat is bigger than Texas, yeah,
Living's filling up my mind with things I dont need.

Bills I can't pay,
Things I can't say,
Ways to complicate my day.
Buzz words[1] to impress the boss,
Pretend that I give a toss.
I'd turn my brain off now,
But I got to think how.

My cowboy hat is bigger than Texas

My wheelie bin's a load of old rubbish,
It's not big enough for all the junk in my life.
My wheelie bin's a load of old rubbish, yeah,
Everything these days is obsolete over night.

Monday nights you'll find me
Creeping in the darkness up my street
Wearing black with charcoaled skin
Dumping stuff in other people's bins
It's where I meet the other guys from my street
'Cause their wheelie bin's a load of old rubbish

My iPod's[2] got nothing on it
So much choice I just don't know what to do
My iPod's got nothing on it, yeah,
Everything new sounds like déjà vu
We got sixty gigabytes[3]
We got one track minds
We got MP3[4]
We got ADD[5]
I'm free to download
And it cost a shitload.
My iPods got nothing on it, yeah.

Notes

1) A buzz word is a word with no specific meaning, though from the context used, it has the appearance of sounding important and/or giving the speaker an air of knowledge on the topic.
2) iPod is a portable digital media device created by Apple, Inc. with the ability to store MP3 music on a hard drive and listen to it while on the move.
3) At the time this song was written, 60GB was roughly the average highest hard drive size for an iPod. However shortly before the song was released, a 160GB version was released.
4) MP3 is a type of file which audio can be digitally stored as. It stands for MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3. It has been criticised for having lossy audio quality, however it has become a standard for digital music due its comparable quality and economic file size.
5) ADD is Attention Deficit Disorder. Its full name is actually "ADHD predominantly innatentive," the ADHD itself stands for "Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder," making the full name of ADD: "Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder predominantly innatentive". Needless to say, ADD is much easier to rhyme, no matter how long the acronym has been depricated.
