The ROOT! Compendium - Lyrics
All lyrics © ROOT!
Love You Long Time
Everybody love you long time,[1]
"Love you long time" - that's what they say
I don't want you to love me long time
It's all bullshit.
Your drug dealer your spiritual healer
Sat nav; broadband; mobile phone plan
Sell you the answer: just drop your pants, sir
It's all bullshit.
Your TV station, leader of your nation
McAltruism[2], my nihilism[3]
Revolutionary razor, Aussie'll enslave yer!
It's all bullshit.
You can't always get what you want
But you can always get what you don't need
Men come from Mars and women come from Venus[4]
And that came from Uranus - what, you think you're some kind of genius?
I don't want no funds management seminar
No call centre in Calcutta[5]
No raffle book, carpet clean
Roof tile, home security
No cheery service provider
No time share in Merimbula[6]
Or any other so-called favour that you're going to do me on the phone
I'd rather miss the chance of a lifetime than have you call me in my home[7]
When my juice is ready don't call my name
When my juice is ready don't call my name
Just call out number 43 - my juice tastes just the same
Information
1) These lyrics were first published in the first edition of the ROOT! mailing list.
1) "Me love you long time" is a line spoken by a Vietnamese prostitute in Stanley Kubrick's film Full Metal Jacket.
2) Altruism is the selfless concern for the welfare of others, the opposite of selfishness. The "Mc" added in the lyric may indicate the use here is short lived concern and fleeting.
3) Nihilism is negative - "an extreme form of skepticism".
4) "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" is a 1992 marital-relations book written by John Gray.
5) Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is the capital of West Bengal in India. Despite complaints from, well, everybody, companies still outsource their call centers to India.
6) Time-share is, essentially, a form of renting where several groups all own the same place (say, a holiday destination) and use it seperately, on a rotating basis. Merimbula is a coastal, tourist town in New South Wales.
7) "Cold calling" is when a person receives an unexpected phone call from someone attempting to sell them something, such as the list of things in the verse. Usually these calls are extremely annoying, happen during meal or prime time for heightened nuisance, and can be combined with the thick Indian accents from note #5.
