The ROOT! Compendium - Old news - November, 2007

November 30, 2007

This just in: On December 7th, ROOT! will be releasing their debut album "Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question" at The Esplanade Hotel, 10:30pm. At the gig, you will also be able to pick up one of the original run of shirts. The gig itself will be introduced by Tony Martin and ROOT! will perform a short tribute to him called "The Tony Awards".

November 29, 2007

With less than ten days to go before the official launch of the album, what we can safely assume is the final, album version of Spring Me Out of Caroline Springs, Caroline has been put up for your aural delight.

Along with the song comes an update which brings with it quiet announcement of a recital - which is actually a recital this time. It's part of a fundraising event, evidently in support of Triple R where DC and Henri will perform a "spoken word piece." Read more about the event here.

Also appearing at The Espy on december 7th is Tony Martin from Triple R who will introduce the band. Also, and possibly more interesting, is the rumour mills suggest that the subject matter himself Tex Perkins is apparently scheduled to appear just a few hours before the ROOT! boys take the stage. It's unclear at this stage whether he will hang around to get his copy of the album signed.

Finally, if any of you missed out on a shirt, they are still purchaseable online and will be on sale at The Espy. Incidentially, there are two shirts, identical on the front but on the back have different messages "Who put the turd in Saturday?" and "Who spells Luna Park in reverse?" - nobody knows if a new variation will appear at the Espy. Be sure to bring cash to throw toward the merchants either way.

The latest:

ROOT! launch their debut album "Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question" Friday December 7th at the Espy Front Bar, free.

Comedic legend Tony Martin , who has made ROOT! a cause celebre on his "Get This" show, will introduce the band to the stage at 10.30.

ROOT! will be joined by onstage guests.

The album will be available for sale for the first time on the night. Subsequently it will become available here and at good CD stores.

Limited stock of the first ROOT! t-shirt is still available.

DC Root and Henri Root will perform a spoken word piece at Ceres Park Sunday December 2nd as part of Melbourne's first barbeque from 2pm.

Sunday December 16th, 3.30pm, the band will appear live at the 2007 Meredith Festival. This festival is, regrettably, sold out.

Following the Meredith Festival appearance, the band will conclude 2007 as part of Mick Thomas’ Christmas show Friday December 21 at the Corner Hotel.

Last night, ROOT! performed as 3RRR's Mystery Band at the Lomond Hotel. Their setlist was the same as their Rob Roy gig, however the second "spoken word" track was the dodgy man track about Kevin Rudd and John Howard, which we've heard before.

The gig was smaller and at a softer volume than ROOT! have previously played, which provided a more intimate setting for the locals who happened to wander in unsuspecting. A first for the band, and one which seemed to take them by surprise as much as the audience - they took a short intermission after "I Still Call Australia 'Ho!'" and returned to the stage. At some point, DC was given an extention for his microphone which gave his wanderings more reach and he managed to escape and climb around in a small outside area, all the while singing.

The at-first perplexed accidental audience eventually warmed to the band and several non-subtle hints about when and where the album would be released (December 7th at the Esplanade Hotel, 10:30pm) and a few converts seem to have been made of them. Also the price of the album was dropped by DC during a train-of-thought rant as being $25 - "an awful little for an awful lot."

Good news, Merideth Festival ticket holders, ROOT! have (only) just now been officially announced as being on the bill for the Merideth Festival, 2007. They'll be on Sunday at 3:30-4:30. The ROOT! Compendium urges people in attendance to please submit the setlist and their reviews as soon as they can.

Not wanting to call attention to its own incredible lack of recent updates, The ROOT! Compendium will skirt the whole issue and get on with the stuff which is what you are here for... er...

ROOT! the band played a gig a while ago at the Retreat Hotel which was crammed to capacity with people who bet on horses that day. The recital was enjoyed by all, particularly the toddlers who were roaming around infront of the stage. The stage (inbetween the outside area and the women's toilet) was turned into a hazard as DC climbed onto anything he could, leaving a microphone cord trail wherever he went which was tripped over many-a time by unknowing passers-by.

The rest of the band played it safe and very tight, with ROOT! managing to show off and play their first encore which was Shazza and Michelle.

On the eve of their Retreat Hotel gig, ROOT! have updated their MySpace page. Most of what's there was left over, verbatim from last updates text. The new stuff:

The first limited run ROOT! t-shirt is now available. Henri and DC Root will be selling the shirt straight after their show at the Retreat Hotel, Cup Day 8pm- cash sales only. It's a limited run, so if your size isn't available, you can order it online here.

Here's where to order:

The rest of it was the same.

So, what have we learned? Well... not a lot, it would seem. Except that you will get a chance to meet two of the ROOT! lads themselves. Even if its only to gripe about how much the shirt costs and that it doesn't come in different colours and cash only... and other things you should know before that point. At least if you exchange some brief words, your six degrees of seperation bubble will include them at a much smaller number of connections. Joy!

Also, it seems this update is to stress that its a limited run. That means there is few of them, which means the intrinsic value is high. The price for online sales is $35 so expect it to be around the same for in-person deals, too.

If you're attending, don't forget to send in a review of the show.
