The ROOT! Compendium - Old news - October, 2007

October 31, 2007

Looky, looky, ROOT! fans: wearables!

ROOT! T-SHIRT ON SALE AT THE RETREAT!!

The first limited run ROOT! t-shirt is now available. For Melbourne folk, the quickest way to purchase yours will be to bring your cash and buy it directly from the band at the Retreat Hotel, Tuesday November 6th. If you can’t be there, or you’re interstate or O/S, you can order it online NOW by simply clicking here:

Order Online Now - Click Here

But please keep in mind there will be a delivery time of up to two weeks. This is to ensure that a range of sizes will still be available for purchase at the Retreat show. Please don’t be alarmed if we sell out of your size, however - if you want a shirt, we’ll order you one.

the next ROOT! show is at the Retreat Hotel, Sydney Road Brunswick, Cup Day November 6th at around 8pm, FREE!

The official launch of "Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question": Friday December 7th FREE 10.30 at the Espy Front Bar - where you can be the first to own the debut album, and maybe even a t-shirt! Be cashed up!

Sunday December 16th, 3.30pm, the band will appear live at the 2007 Meredith Festival. This festival is, regrettably, sold out.

Following the Meredith Festival appearance, the band will conclude 2007 as part of Mick Thomas’ Christmas show Friday December 21 at the Corner Hotel.

The album will subsequently be available for online ordering here, at selected discerning stores and at shows.

Did you get all that? It's a lot. The picture basically says it all, though. Click it, by the way, for a super-sized look at the shirt (and a shocking glipse of DC's powerfully hairy arms). These shirts will go on sale much earlier than previously thought, with sales beginning at the upcoming Retreat Hotel gig (November 6). Yes, they can be bought online, though, it would seem not via PayPal. You won't receive it until after the gig, though, so your best bet is to grab it at the concert.

As mentioned, the shirts are a limited run, but if the size you order online sells out at the Retreat Hotel, you will still receive your shirt, in the size ordered, it will be made up special for you. Ain't that nice?

There has been no official word on what the cost of the shirt or the album will cost, though expect the shirts to be around the $30-35 mark.

And speaking of mark... ROOT! have made their mark on Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Left over from the previous link festival, you can go there and start adding info about ROOT! ...right now! Clicky.

No news. Just reasons to go some place else.

For the first time, people who haven't got the chance before can now see DC Root and the boys in action. A short clip of I Wish I Was Tex Perkins has made it up on YouTube. It runs roughly one minute and goes from the start of the song to just before the first chorus. Clicky.

Facebook is getting ugly. A ROOT! group has sprung up the popular networking site. It's called "ROOT! are simply the greatest band in Australia today!!!" As of right now it features some photos, a clip from the October 23 gig (short clips of Pauline Hansen Says Theres Christian Muslims Too | I Still Call Australia 'HO!' | Spring Me Out Of Caroline Springs, Caroline | Crown) and the owner claims its "regularly updated". Clicky.

Recently, ROOT! updated their MySpace page with a whole bucket load of information. Strap yourselves in, it's a big one.

ROOT! NEWS

!!! After catching ROOT! ’s recent performance at the Espy, the Meredith Festival have added the band to this year’s bill - Sunday December 16 at 3.30pm.

!!! The very first ROOT! t-shirt will be available soon!

!!! The next ROOT! show is at the Retreat Hotel, Sydney Road Brunswick, Cup Day November 6th at around 8pm, FREE!

!!! The official launch of "Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question": Friday December 7th FREE 10.30 at the Espy Front Bar - where you can be among the first to own the debut album, and maybe even a t-shirt! Be cashed up!

Following the Meredith Festival appearance, the band will conclude 2007 as part of Mick Thomas’ Christmas show Friday December 21 at the Corner Hotel.

The album will subsequently be available online here through PayPal, at selected discerning stores and at shows.

So, in a nutshell we have this: A new gig. A new album. A new shirt.

Firstly, the big news: The Merideth Festival. Yes, according to ROOT! they are playing there - according to the Merideth Festival website... well, it probably hasn't been updated, yet. Either way, the show is completely sold out, and has been for some time, apparently. The ROOT! Compendium is calling on all people with tickets - please send in your reviews and setlists after the show.

Next is shirts - this one is a complete surprise as nothing of the sort had been mentioned before. ROOT! urges you to be "cashed up" so don't assume you'll get one just because you're buying the CD on its first release. More info on the shirt/s is to come.

Also, for those of you who can't make it to The Espy on December 7th, the album will be available through the ROOT! MySpace page and you can electronically pay for it via PayPal.

For the first time, ROOT! took to the stage at The Tote last night and played through a set of twelve. If you attended, feel free to send in your reviews. The setlist is as follows:

1) I Get My Kicks When I'm 66
2) I Wear My Prescription Sunglasses At Night
3) Shazza and Michelle
4) #4/4
5) School
6) I Still Call Australia 'HO!'
7) #3/4
8) Pauline Hansen Says There's Christian Muslims Too
9) Crown
10) Back To Mine
11) Spring Me Out Of Caroline Springs, Caroline
12) I Wish I Was Tex Perkins

In other news, the lyrics for Spring Me Out Of Caroline Springs, Caroline have been added, and in even more news, the ROOT! Fan Club is open for business. Go forth and patronize it, fellow Rooters!

October 22, 2007

Well, it's been a while, but here it is, all the news that's been floating around for a while already. As you most likely know, DC Root and Henri Root joined the hosts of Best of the Brat nearly a week ago for an hour-long interview. 3RRR have remained tight-lipped about what The ROOT! Compendium is allowed to host in regards to that. So if you missed it, stay tuned and we'll see what occurs.

On the concert front, a new one has popped up, and not only that, but a solid, real, actual, factual release date for the album! December 7th at the oft-frequented Esplanade Hotel. The gig is free but the album is not, you have to pay for that. Autographs will be made available.

If you're wondering, the answer is still no, it's not a typo. The December 21st gig really costs $22+bf. for that price you get Mick Thomas & the Sure Thing, Rebecca Barnard, Kerri Simpson and, of course, ROOT! will be there, too. Incidentially, they will be playing sans Barnaby as a three-piece acoustic.

Here it is from the boys themselves:

ROOT! ALBUM RELEASE DATE AND FORTHCOMING SHOWS

In the lead-up to their album release, ROOT! will appear Tuesday, October 23, at The Tote from 8.15pm.

A week later, ROOT! will appear live on Tuesday November 6th as part of Cup Day celebrations/commiserations at The Retreat Hotel in Brunswick. A full field of bands will hit the track from 5pm with our nature-strip cowboys scheduled around 8.

And ROOT! can now confirm the launch date for their debut album "Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question" will be December 7th, with a performance at the Espy, the venue which has become a leitmotif in ROOT! ’s slow rise from obscurity. The evening will incorporate an official CD signing and performance. More show details to follow.

And if that's still not enough, The ROOT! Compendium will soon be unveiling its biggest update to-date.

October 10, 2007

Holy overload of information! If you've been wondering why we haven't heard much from the boys in a while, the reason has become clear: it's taken them this long to type up their latest update. Here it is in a nutshell:

The album is finished and is set for a November release - you'll be able to buy it in (some) stores, at gigs and online via PayPal. There are now three confirmed upcoming concerts. Both DC and Henri Root will be on the radio - 3RRR (Tuesday, October 16, 10pm) and DC will have interviews in both The Age and The Daily Telegraph.

Phew! Got all that? Here it is, as told by ROOT! themselves:

LATEST NEWS:

Henri Root and DC Root will be special guests on "Best Of The Brat" Tuesday October 16 from 10pm on Melbourne’s 3RRR.

The following Tuesday, October 23, ROOT! will appear live at The Tote from 8.15pm.

And to complete the Tuesday triptych, ROOT! will appear live on Tuesday November 6th as part of Cup Day celebrations/commiserations at The Retreat Hotel in Brunswick. A full field of bands will hit the track from 5pm with our nature-strip cowboys scheduled around 8.

ROOT! are currently awaiting first pressings of their now completed album "Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question."

An album launch and release date is planned for November. The album will subsequently be available online here through PayPal, at selected discerning stores and at shows.

DC Root is also set to feature in interviews with The Age and The Daily Telegraph.

Finally, Henri Root, Steve Root and DC Root have been confirmed as guests on the line-up of Mick Thomas’ much-loved annual Christmas shows at the Corner Hotel. Due to the absence of master-drummer Barnaby Root (reputedly overseas running drum clinics during December) the remaining trio will perform a low-key "acoustic" set as the opening act on Friday December 21. It is rumoured that DC Root may decide to provide rudimentary rhythmic accompaniment on some songs, although when quizzed on how he stacks up against the whip-cracking, supple-wristed groove of Barnaby Root, DC Root replied: "Like the similarities between Van Gogh and a year 9 boy drawing a huge bulbous penis in permanent marker on the collar of the nerdy kid in front."

Wow. And, just a reminder, if you're still reading, that The ROOT! Compendium is searching for a September 28, 2007 setlist. If you have a scan or even just a written order of songs performed, please don't hesitate to contact. Don't forget you can also send in your reviews of any show you attended.

October 8, 2007

Well, its been a while since we last heard from ROOT! and the latest is their show date and time for the upcoming gig at The Tote. Reported earlier as speculation, the date of 23rd of October has only now been confirmed. Along with this is the time of 8:15pm at the hefty cost of $4.

No word, as yet on the upcoming Retreat Hotel recital.
