The ROOT! Compendium - Old news - September, 2007
September 30, 2007
The latest two ROOT! shows have gone off without a hitch, and by all reports, they were both fantastic shows. But The ROOT! Compendium needs you! If you have a setlist of either/both shows, please don't hesitate to contact with regards to that.
While you're there, why don't you send in a review of the show you attended?
And speaking of shows, ROOT! are playing upcoming shows at The Tote and The Retreat Hotel. Early reports indicate that The Tote gig may be on Tuesday the 23rd of October, but further details on either gig are sketchy at best. More to come.
Oh, and the latest album news says that its "on the way."

ROOT! played at the Rob Roy Hotel last night and will play again tonight (September 28) at The Espy.
If you attended last nights or will be attending tonights, be sure to send in your reviews, setlists, etc. for The ROOT! Compendium's archive.
Recently unveiled at the ROOT! MySpace is their blog - one post so far, which details the formation of the group, specifically how each member met and contracted eachother. Infectuously compelling reading.

Over the last few days many interesting things have happened. One, a new concert has been announced. Two, a new song appeared on the band's site. Three, many updates went into this site.
Firstly, from the band:
ROOT! appearing Thursday SEPTEMBER 27th at the ROB ROY. More details re onstage time to follow.
And secondly, also from the band:
In the meantime, please enjoy two tracks from the forthcoming album Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question.
The first song was (and still is) I Wish I Was Tex Perkins but new material has come about in the form of a recorded version of I Still Call Australia 'HO!' which can now be confirmed to be on the continuously forthcoming "Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question".
Finally, and less interestingly, several cosmetic changes have occured around the site. All of which took time and energy and will no doubt go unnoticed. Either way, flex your fingers and begin typing reviews of ROOT! related things.
That is all, for now.

ROOT! crawled on stage at The Esplanade Hotel last night (September 7th, 2007) to a packed room and performed their most blistering set to-date.
Among the regulars performed (Shazza and Michelle, I Wish I Was Tex Perkins, I Still Call Australia 'HO!', etc.) four never-before-heard tracks were debuted. "School" was about a teenager who dismisses his peers when he falls in love with a school mum, and "Cowboy," which up until now was only heard in Introducing ROOT! (we called it My iPod's Got Nothing On It). Along with these were two poem-rants set to music, known only by their time signiatures, #4/4 was about Rudd and #3/4 was about being a tortured and creatively depressed artist.
The full set-list went like this:
1) I'll Get My Kicks When I'm 66
2) School
3) Shazza and Michelle
4) #4/4
5) Cowboy
6) I Still Call Australia 'HO!'
7) #3/4
8) Pauline Hansen Says There's Cristian Muslims Too
9) Crown
10) Back To Mine
11) Spring Me Out Of Caroline Springs, Caroline
12) I Wish I Was Tex Perkins
Several of the songs were drastically different from earlier incarnations and the work being put into the oft-delayed album is clearly evident.

No album is good album...
Once again fans have been dealt a devastating blow as ROOT! confirm that possibly the most anticipated album in country music history (rumours are more than two people are mildly interested) has been once again delayed.
However! The mix is nearing completion; Barnaby's drumming received a total overhaul throughout the album (which we caught a glimpse of in Shazza and Michelle), among other things, now once that's done it's off to the printers so theys can make it all purty and nice.
A full remix [of the album] has been finished and now everyone's having a listen for minor adjustments.
Then it will be mastered, then the audio and artwork masters go to the manufacturer, which usually involves a 2 week turnaround.
Thus we're close, but still not quite there.
With the surprising demand we've had so far for the album, everyone wanted it to be as good as it could be.
Don't forget, ROOT! play The Espy tomorrow (Friday the 7th) and they're FREE!
September 5, 2007
Update, update on the September 7th gig:
Straight from the horsie's mouths:
From The Espy:
Root are on at 10pm,
The Public Bar is actually free entry on Friday Night, it's an entire venue event at $15, but the public bar is keept free entry.
They went on to say that there is a three dollar booking fee, depending where you get your ticket and that buying one ahead is advised. However, ROOT! are free and you don't need a ticket for them.
From ROOT!:
We'd better re-iterate that Friday night is free. Despite the Espy's advertising, which lumps all the acts together and therefore implies a $15 covercharge, the downstairs bar, where we are playing is FREE. This was always the arrangement and we confirmed it with a call to the Espy today.
It's only once you ascend the steps to the front bar/Gershwin Room that the $15 applies.
It's weird the way it has appeared, and understandably misleading. We certainly don't want people out there having the impression that the price has "gone up" - we were always going to be free, and still are - in the monetary sense, anyway...
So there you have it, ROOT! on at 10:00pm and the cost is FREE! for this friday, the 7th of September.
Even though we did receive word ROOT! would be on at 10:15pm, I'd be more inclinded to go by The Espy's word. It's the time we've been told since it was first announced and besides, arriving early is always a good idea.
Update, update, update:
From ROOT!'s MySpace
ROOT! APPEARING FREE! AT THE ESPLANADE THIS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 7TH
Contrary to rumour, ROOT! ’s performance this Friday at the Esplanade will be FREE!
ROOT! will appear from 10.15 in the downstairs bar, entry to the right of the front steps. The $15 covercharge applies to bands in the Front Bar and Gershwin Room only. Approach the famous front steps, veer right, take a trip down into the venue’s underground, and you’ll see ROOT! FREE.
Again, conflict with the times - getting there early is still your best bet for avoiding disappointment.
September 4, 2007
Update on the upcoming September 7th gig at the Espy: It appears as though ROOT! will be taking the stage at 10:15pm and the cost seems to have increased, from free to a whopping $15.
More news as it comes to hand.
