The ROOT! Compendium - Old news - April, 2008

April 28, 2008

Firstly, apologies for the lack of updates. Plenty has been going on, but not here unfortunately. The author has been busy with something called Count High - which you can easilly become involved in.

In ROOT! related news, there are new shows upcoming, rumours of tours, a new poster and a lengthy interview recently conducted. Firstly, the new shows: ROOT! are supporting the reunion and album launch of The Nubiles who "were/are famous for their action packed live ‘devil may care’ rock performances, often in costume with fake blood and witty one liners." The cost is $15 + BF or $18 at the door. Special tickets at $30 + BF include the Nubiles album. The second gig is at The Old Bar. Please note ROOT! are headlining, which means they will be on late! At the extoardinary time of 11pm - at night. The tickets are $10.

Secondly, Greg Wadley of Webcuts Music writes in to tell us of a lengthy interview with DC Root, it is available here and includes audio of Young Man's Blues Blues for those who haven't picked up the album yet (what's taking you so long?). The interview contains some insight into DC's writing and contains a little on the follow-up album, among more.

And finally, file this deep in the rumour category - there is a possibility of Sydney and Brisbane gigs this year, though surprisingly enough, nothing has been confirmed and is strictly a titillating rumour.

The ROOT! Compendium has several updated pages today, so please report any broken/wonky links.

A few notes about tomorrow night's ROOT! performance at The Retreat Hotel. The band will be onstage at 7:30pm and off again approx. 8:30pm. Unlike last time when we all foolishly thought it would start at the time we were told. Whoops. The price tag for this gig is also considerably more agreeable than the last concert, with the Retreat Hotel entry price clocking in at a whopping - nothing. It's free.

Also, rumours have circulated of another gig at the Espy. Stay tuned for more about that in the coming days.

Well, along with Uncle Vom Vom, we also have layed our ears on Get Up, which had its debut at the East Brunswick Club... is this material for a new album? ROOT! fan Todd writes in to say "I was talking to 'DC' before the Brunswick club show and he told me that the second album has been written, and he plans to have it recorded and released before the end of the year" needless to say this is very exciting news - but perspective and history reminds us that the first album began as rumours at The Spanish Club, their first ever gig. In current news ROOT! have just made official their intense creepiness with their lastest update, complete with poster:

DON’T MISS ROOT! AT THE RETREAT!

It’s autumn... the leaves fall... your mower gets clogged... the fluffy slippers come back out of the wardrobe... and ROOT! are at the Retreat! Yes, as Sunday night’s descent signals the creeping appearance, like some kind of evil pantomime character lurking in the wings, of Monday Dread, why not practice denial and have a few 7 o’clock drinks with your own favourite bunch of faded sexual magnets ROOT!

Around 7pm, with the smell of chicken parma filling your nostrils with homely reminiscence, ROOT! will wind their way into another too-rock-for-country set, once again renewing their acquaintance with the Retreat’s "so daggy it’s cool" interiors and the only rock stage that features a constant dream of girls walking past on their way to the loo.

Don’t let autumn shut down your pheromones.

DC needs a lil’ company.
