The ROOT! Compendium - Old news - February, 2008
February 26, 2008
If you've been starved for ROOT! news so far this year, your cup now runneth over. The ROOT! MySpace page has been updated with a fabulous new poster for the upcoming East Brunswick Club gig. Speaking of which, said club has now added ROOT! to their online gig guide with tickets marked at $16+BF (booking fee) or $18 at the door, if available. The gig is a double-headline with Kerri Simpson & the Prodigal Sons, there is also another "special guest" on the night. Who or what that is, is uncertain at this early stage.
Speaking of gigs, ROOT! played at the Sydney Road Street Party just recently and were joined by not only Joe Root (you may remember from the December 7th gig) on banjo and slide guitar, but also a new member, Doug Lee Root on bass. More info on that below.
Along with all of that new information, over at the MySpace page, DC has written up a "Blag" - which is seperate from the "Blog" post which told the history of ROOT! - and it goes something like this:
THIS WEEK IN THE WORLD OF ROOT!
(A "blag" from DC Root)
Hello. DC Root here.
Last Sunday ROOT! played on the "Roots" stage at the Brunswick Festival. It was nice of them to name the stage after us, despite the slight typo. Or was it named in honour of the Philadelphian hip-hop act?
Anyway, Napoleon once said "the torment of precautions often exceeds the dangers to be avoided" - and well might the corpulent Corsican say that, but it was easier in his day, wasn’t it? I mean, they still had an ozone layer. So there was no slip slop slapping for ol’ Boney. He just whipped on that strange hat of his (imagine if you wore one of them on the beach... you’d have this stripe of moving shade, like an old fashioned sundial) and viola! no sunburn! No later need for application of aloe vera jel in a shut-the-gate-after-the-horse-has-bolted attempt to mitigate against the inevitable ravages of flake-o-scalp.
Well, I took the Napoleonic route to sun protection (i.e. none) at the Brunswick Festival, and my not inconsiderable hooter is now nicely crisped, thank-you very much. My cowboy hat might be bigger than Texas, but my schnozza is bigger than the U.S of A, it would appear.
Sigh.
Ah well, self-indulgence aside, I’d like to tell you about ROOT!’s onstage guests at the Brunswick Festival. We were again joined by the lovely Joe Talia, pedal steel/banjo player of renown, as well as two children who clearly mistook it for the hip-hop stage.
But also and most arrestingly, I was accompanied to my left by the dashing, Simon-Templar-like figure of Doug Lee Root on bass and vocals. Some of you may know him as the bassist and singer for Melbourne’s much-loved, critically acclaimed Ice-Cream Hands, and the ever vigilant among you will also have noticed he contributed backing vocals to our little opus Root Supposed He Was Out Of The Question. Doug Lee Root is a fine bass player, a fabulous singer, extremely tall (in my never-ending quest to align myself with towering musicians, I will now appear onstage between the twin towers of Henri and Doug Lee, thus appearing like Tattoo from Fantasy Island. The plane! The plane!)...
... but apart from all of these outstanding qualities personified by Doug Lee Root, most importantly, girls, he’s good looking.
My plan is taking shape.
DC
And that just about wraps it up for this update. Stay tuned for more updates as they happen.

Yes, it really has been that uneventful recently. However, there is the upcoming Street Party which ROOT! will be a part of, that is coming up quickly. Remember to grab any keepsakes, such as photographs, setlists, etc. and to also send in reviews of the gig.
There are three new lyrics pages, they are Crown, I Wear My Prescription Sunglasses At Night and I'm A Country Member. You can check them all out (and others) in the lyrics section. Enjoy.
